I began researching composition by looking at some of my favourite film directors and various techniques that are common in their films.

The first director I looked at was Wes Anderson and I found these two videos depicting two common shots that Anderson uses in all of his films.

The first is 'Wes Anderson Centered'

All these shots have been set up and stylised to be balanced and centred, almost in a cartoon-like fashion which is a technique that has been used time and time again as this video demonstrates.

The Second is Wes Anderson 'From Above'

This video is showing yet another very stylised shot that Wes Anderson commonly uses in his films.

I also took a look at director Quintin Tarantino and came across the 'from below'. I think this composition is very powerful and is used a lot in Tarantino's films to depict power and control, to give the audience the sense that they are looking at a 'god-like' figure, which can also make the audience feel very small and vulnerable.

Stanley Kubric's use of One Point Perspective (often down hallways) and symmetrical framing.
