Composition Portfolio pt.1 Idea exploration:

Project aim: To make a series of GIFs inspired by modern artists Larry Carlson and colourful internet GIFs that are commonly seen on websites such as tumblr and pinterest (I have previously posted some examples). I want the overall look to be colourful, fun and bright and inspired by adventures I have been on with my friends over the summer and various other photographs I have taken.

Research: Earlier on in the semester I began looking at and posting about cinemagraphs, I loved how simple and clean they looked and how they only contained one or two simple movements, it was as if it was hardly moving at all. This is what inspired me when it came to animation, I want the movement of the pieces to be minimalistic and simple yet effective yet I craved more colour and excitement.

I looked to artist Larry Carlson for inspiration. Larry Carlson is known for his bright and colourful psychedelic artwork which ranges from collage to digital illustrations to flashy GIFs.

The work above is titled 'Nightfall at the edge of the Universe' I enjoy how Carlson has combined digital artwork and photography to create a cool and interesting image. This piece inspired me to create original artwork to add to photographs in my own work.

I also enjoy the look of the more intense collages that Carlson creates using his own original drawings and paintings, as well as found imagery.

I like this one in particular as it is bright, colourful and original.
